This deliverable asks you to apply our syllabus review protocol to your own classroom syllabus. You may review the protocol here: Part 2: Equity Precepts and Protocols. For convenience, you may follow the instructions below as you go through your existing syllabus.
- In Yellow, highlight text that expresses
- Excitement about the course.
- Welcoming and accommodating language.
- In BLUE, highlight text that expresses
- How the instructor will support students in the course.
- Information about campus resources and services for students.
- Statements that demonstrate a belief in the students’ ability to succeed
- In GREEN, highlight text that expresses
- An appreciation of racial and cultural diversity.
- The use of racially and culturally diverse course content.
- A concern for educational equity and justice
- In RED, highlight and STRIKE-OUT text that is
- Excessively rule or policy driven.
- Unnecessarily disciplinary or intimidating.
Instructions
Create and submit a revised course syllabus with substantive changes to some or all of the following aspects of the class: course content (readings, topics, etc), classroom activities, assignments, grading structure, language, class policies. As you embark on this redesign, be attentive to the principles of Universal Design and ensure your syllabus is accessible.
